After receiving Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior, Charles Finney spoke to many people and he saw that Holy Spirit made lasting impressions upon each and every one to whom he spoke. They were all soon converted and they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

One evening a friend invited him to his home where a young man lived with him who was working in distilling whiskey. And that young man was an Universalist. Charles was asked to take tea with that family. So he sat down with them. And they asked him to say a word of thanks to God. He never did this before and as they sat around the table he started praying. He barely started praying and suddenly he thought about the young man and the other young girl who was in that home and he was filled with so much compassion that he burst into weeping. He could not proceed further. Everyone around the table sat speechless for a short time. The young man stood up and ran to his room and locked himself in. Next morning when he came out of his room, he told about the blessed hope in Christ that he received. He became a minister of the Gospel and worked very efficiently for many years.

Charles' conversion brought great amazement in the whole village. When Pastor Mr. Gale was told that Charles got converted, he could not believe it and he told others that he did not believe that Charles would ever be converted.

After his conversion he had a long talk with his pastor on the subject of atonement. The Pastor believed that atonement was not for every person but only for limited people whom God elected. But though Charles was a child in theology and a novice in religion and in Biblical learning, still he did not agree with the ideas of the Pastor and he objected to the thought and said, "Jesus died for everyone and atonement is made for each and every person in this world." Pastor did not agree, but Charles felt that the view of the pastor was not according to the Bible.

Very often they argued on various subjects while he was studying under Mr. Gale in his theological course. The pastor was convinced that Charles was converted but he tried to keep him within the strict rules of Princeton theology. Very often he told Charles that, Lord would not bless the work of Charles unless he preached the truth. Charles was also agreeable with this view of the pastor.

Charles attended some meetings of the young people. And he proposed to pray three times in a day for revival. They did it for one week and came back and discussed what to do next. And the Spirit of prayer was poured on them greatly many could not stand on their feet and even they could not stand upon their knees in their prayer closets. Some lay on the floor and with much groaning prayed to God for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

God heard the prayers and Holy Spirit was poured out and the whole place was filled with people. All had so much enthusiasm for religion as never before. But older people did not like this movement and they provoked God and grieved the Holy Spirit of God. But young people were filled with the Holy Spirit and a great revival broke forth in that place.
